Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Animated

"What in God's name am I looking at?"-Fan's reaction

I wasn't really a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it was first airing. During the first season most of the characters seemed lack personality and the overall arc of the story seemed a tad cliche. I lost interest after that, despite the praise it earned in its later seasons. Having recently discovered Angel, the far superior spin-off series, I feel I may have passed judgement too early. That is why this article caught my eye earlier.

The premise behind this new series perplexed me at first. Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer both contained fairly mature subject matter, so I'm unsure who the target audience is. The animation looks heavily stylized, so it seems to be geared toward a younger audience. It seems to take place during the early days of Joss Whedon's fictional universe, the way the characters talk and react definitely feels like season one of Buffy. The unaired pilot isn't much to go on, but the show looks like it could be fun. The animation is charming without being too kiddy and the voice actors sound close enough to the characters for fans to be pleased. There is currently no word on which network the series may eventually air on. Early looks are promising, let's hope the show doesn't die here.

Joker's Fatality

Ok, no one really cares about Mortal Kombat anymore. The series, tragically, stopped producing great games many years ago. The series was supposed to end with Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, but the franchise appears to continue with Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. All the previews seem to show the game following the same formula the others have for years. Why should you be interested? Because the game features the Joker as a playable character.

While fans may not be hot for Mortal Kombat, everyone is hot for the Joker. Given the character's recent rise in popularity, to The Dark Knight, this could potentially improve the sales of the game. Quality aside, Joker fighting against Mortal Kombat characters is just plain cool. It will also put an end to the age-old debate: who wins in a fight between Joker and Scorpion?

Avengers Assemble?

Six days ago hollywoodnorthreport.com included a very interesting rumor in their preview coverage of the 2008 Toronto Film Festival. Scuttlebutt says that we may be seeing something on the 2011 Avengers movie. Fans have been salivating for more ever since the film was first teased at the end of Iron Man. While it is still insanely early to be expecting a look at the film; a teaser trailer would be much appreciated by comic and movie fans alike.

Comic Previews

Wednesday is almost upon us. Here are the books I feel are worth your money.
DC Universe Last Will and Testament #1 (bottom) and Wolverine #68(top) stand out as this week's heavy hitters.
Last Will and Testament is a one-shot that deals with the death of the DC Universe. That is basically everything known about the book, and yet I'm still psyched for it. Brad Meltzer proved he could write characters true to form in the aftermath of tragedy with Identity Crisis, his first excellent foray into comics. I have faith that he'll manage to do the same thing here, perhaps on a grander scale.
Wolverine #68 continues the "Old Man Logan" story arc. When I heard Mark Millar was doing a post-apocalyptic Wolverine story I was more than a little skeptical. When I heard the arc would feature a drug dealing Hawkeye, a hillbilly Hulk gang, and Spider-Man's illegitimate granddaughter; my anticipation went through the roof. Mark Millar has a knack for writing the disturbingly awesome and Steve McNiven's gorgeous art alone would warrant a purchase. Hopefully the quality of the book won't drop as the eight issue arc continues.

Blog Goals

My goal with this blog is to keep everyone reading informed on everything geek related. I will be covering comics, television, video games, and movies. Comics will be covered on a weekly basis; I'll pick one from the stack each week that I feel deserves a spotlight. T.V. coverage will start once I get caught up on the hot shows getting new seasons later this year. Video games won't be covered on a regular basis, usually only in the case of major releases or something I feel needs to be known about a particular game. I plan on covering movies about once a week; the reviews will be posted on weekends. If I see any news items I feel are worth commenting on I'll type up something on them. Look for the first reviews this week, more bloggers coming soon.

Test

Just a quick test before we get started.
